Two equal ~40 m² apartments: how to share a holiday between two families or couples

Going on holiday with another family, or with friends, is the best idea until the first morning: one bathroom, one kitchen, two different ideas of when breakfast is. Terra House was built for exactly this trip. It is two apartments of the same size under one long roof, mirrored side by side — together, but each with its own door.

Two apartments, the same on both sides

Each apartment is about 40 m² plus a sleeping loft, and the plan is the same on both sides:

• Kitchen and living room — about 21 m²
• Bedroom with a double bed — 8.1 m²
• Bedroom with two single beds — 8.1 m²
• Bathroom — 2.3 m²
• Sleeping loft up the ladder, with a low wide bed and its own window

Apartment 1 is on the right, apartment 2 on the left. Neither is the "better" one — which is exactly what makes them easy to share.

What each apartment has of its own

• Its own entrance
• Its own fitted kitchen: hob, oven, fridge, kettle, coffee and the rail of tools above the oak worktop
• Its own round table with four chairs, and a sofa
• Its own terrazzo bathroom with a rain shower
• Its own end of the garden terrace, with a table and chairs
• Wi-Fi in both apartments

The apartments share no wall.

How groups use it

• Two families with children: each family takes an apartment. Parents in the double room, children in the twin room, and the loft for whoever wins the argument. Dinner together on one terrace, breakfast apart.
• Two couples: each couple has an apartment, a bedroom to spare and a quiet morning. The evening on the terrace is the shared part of the day.
• Grandparents and a family: the same kitchen and bathroom on both sides means nobody gets the smaller half, and the grandparents can close their own door at nine.
• Friends travelling together: book both apartments for the same dates and split them however suits you.

How many people

We count four guests per apartment in the two bedrooms, and the loft bed can take two more. For a group, the page also offers both apartments together for the same dates.

Why the middle matters

A small hall and technical room stand where a shared wall would usually be. That is the quiet trick of the house: you are next door to your friends, but you will not hear their children at six in the morning, and they will not hear your late dinner. When you want to be together, there is the garden and the terraces at both ends.

Outside

A paved terrace at each end with a table and chairs, young cypresses along the wall and the lawn between. The path lights come on by themselves at dusk. Parking is by the gate. The sea is seven minutes on foot; the seaside park, the Blue Flag beach and the aqua park are all within a walk or a short bike ride.

• Check-in from 15:00, check-out by 11:00; the keys wait in the key box

• No parties, quiet after 22:00, pets by arrangement
